Up, Close & Personal - The Anna Revolution

I have a lot f people around wanting me to raise an opinion on what I call “THE BEST SOCIAL REVOLUTION” post Independence era. I can’t post it then because I felt that for a person who for the last 4 months is continuously following this story and has day – night heard discussions on the same, it will be insane to just make an answer on a question which is too open ended. So HERE I GO –

Anna Hazare – A phenomenon, Gentle men, Genuine, Straight forward & the best epitome of  Non  - Violence & People’s anger towards Financial Corruption. For he is a person of sheer respect & dignity, I salute him for his queer decisiveness, love for the nation & simplicity. After what I heard when I was in school regarding a quote, “SIMPLE LIVING, HIGH THINKING”, I have worked out two people MANMOHAN SINGH & ANNA HAZARE. Ironically they both stand against each other in this battle.

For a person like me who has political & corporate linkages it is easy to understand to what level the anti – corruption movement is the need of the hour. Financial corruption in India has gone to such an extent that from buying a Pencil (where the shop keeper saves the Sales Tax by not giving the Bill) to Selling a Land (where for an amount of 1 Crore, Registry is done for 50 Lacs only for to evade Income & Wealth Tax) we all are CORRUPT. For do we have enough literacy about the aforesaid facts is still deeply questionable

The biggest sources of corruption are not just REAL ESTATE or ELECTION FUNDINGS as presumed. If u see clearly from where does this unaccounted money starts is not from politicians but it is from us. We have made a case where there is no accounting or Bill being paid to us for when we are in Barber Shop, Vegetable vendor, Stationary market or even in some juice bar. Now here is from where it all starts. Govt as usual takes Income tax or Sales tax from these people. These people show there income much much below what they are having in reality. So that particular person has some unaccounted income. Now she/he can’t spend this money publicly for eyebrows will be raised on the same. So as per recent trend they take some real estate property in some other state on some other’s name and make it a Tax evading heaven. For Singapore & Switzerland are for Bigwigs, Real estate is for small & medium ones.

Now the question is why Real estate is a crusader of Black money? Have we ever realised that why the price of lands increase on a monthly basis without having any logic other than that Demand has increased? Have we ever thought the reason for why we are ready to buy a 6 Marla Plot for some 80 Lakh in Gurgaon and why the company is selling it at that exorbitant price? Have we ever given a thought that why HUDA/PUDA Draw schemes have a single person getting 7 – 8 Plots & some not even having it for last 20 years? Has there ever been an outcry why there is not a single Real Estate regulatory body in this country rather than having Gandhi names 7 schemes on Housing? No No No

It is so because we ourselves are the real bunglers. We ourselves are buying & Investing Loads & Loads of money on buying real estate properties. We believe that it is a great source of income & rather than investing on share market lets invest there. Lets change the quote people ’CORRPUTION BEGINS AT HOME’ .

We vote for a MLA or MP who assures that Your son/ Daughter will be given a Sarkari Job, another biggest source of corruption. For becoming a sub inspector you need to pay Rs 10 – 15 Lakh and for some IAS/IIMs the fees is in Crores!!. Now if u are going to pay this hefty amt of money for a monthly salary of Rs 20,000 you need to become corrupt. So you start illegal activities, start bribing, you are not available for general public which in turn to get its work done have to again bribe you. This makes the whole public domain corrupt. Why nobody ever thinks that these Govt jobs should be made accountable and they should be under severe scrutiny? I guarantee if a strict amendment is done in this regard, it will solve scores of problems.

We talk of Lokpal. Good I appreciate that but why Arvind Kejriwal doesn’t talks about CAG, CVC, ED, CBI, IT etc which are already there to do the same work which he wants Lokpal to do? Why he doesn’t introspects that what has lead to the failure of these institutions by and large? Blaming Govt is not a solution Mr Kejriwal. Today have you analysed that only due to a strong Supreme Court, a fearless CAG and a superfast CBI has made a strong case for you to start a Janlokpal movement. The simple observation is  - ‘As the King, so the State’. Giving sweeping powers to Lokpal doesn’t makes a case for a strong anti – corrupt institution. I just request you not to push bill fast for slow & steady wins the race. Lets discuss it comprehensively and make it super successful, we all are with you & Anna jee.

‘Right to Recall’ is a good move but have we thinked a lot about it. If this thing is passed I think it will jeopardize the democracy. We have today peole from lower strata of society voting because they are being provided enough money & liquor at the time of elections. So if there is a right to recall it would be politically motivated and we will lose stability & growth. So why don’t have a ‘DUTY TO VOTE’ Instead. Make it compulsory for everybody to vote. Let country’s intellectuals, house wives, teachers, corporate, students VOTE. This will make a much much stronger democracy.

As per electoral reforms are concerned lets go the US way and make it public funding. Going away with multi party system is such an impractical, unconstitutional, unpolitical solution which I think ceases to exist even in Nightmares. The biggest irony which about nobody thinks is that in our Constitution there is not even a single clause dictating the roles & responsibilities of MLA, MP? This is obnoxious that even after 62 years we are not being able to make a clause on the same and our main focus is on increasing their salaries & allocation under MLADS, MPADS ETC. Making public a stakeholder will definitely make a case for responsible MP, MLA. Let’s make the term of these offices for 3 years and have a citizen charter for the same.

Let’s do away with reservations Congress? With due respect to the founders of Constitution, our aim has never been solved. Our main motto has been to bring them foreword socially and reservation is not a solution at all. Why rather than tagging them SC, ST, OBC we provide them education free of cost or at minimal cost? We provide them Good Housing and food? I am quite sure that if we just fulfill the psychological needs of the people, there will be no dearth of jobs for them. Rather than improving our quality of education we are making them all corrupt by creating social injustice. Rather than giving subsidy to the farmers on Diesel, Electricity, and Loans etc why don’t open agricultural R&D centers? Why don’t let them export or import with easy guidelines? Reforms will start from the Ground not the sky!

We are improving. The GST, UID, DMRC are some of the notable and remarkable signs that we want to become Brightest stars of the galaxy. Why can’t India be like Delhi Metro which is Honest, Punctual, Comfortable, and Affordable & is notably UN corruptible? They had envisaged a model which is from head to toe clean as Anna Hazare. Let’s have responsible people at the helms that can make us hope for a brighter India.
Media has a greater role to play. I was happy that Intellectual channels like CNN IBN, Time Now have shown great maturity in dealing with the issue of Jan Lokpal movement. But I want people to be more aware. There is a world beyond this media too. Let’s media be a partner in growth and not the champion. The champion has to be we the people of India.

There are people like Irome Sharmila who have all their life fought for causes which are greater than life. But we never think of them. We never raise our voices against BCCI or IHF which are the real Tormentors of the nation sports and we tend to burn our agony on the Players. Why can’t we have transparency in UPSC, CBSE? Is it difficult for these institutions to give us the answer sheets back? Not at all but we had made it a habit for ourselves. This puts me in Dock to ask Are we Indians Genetically corrupt?

The answer is NO. Acc to the studies of Respected Institutions like Transparency International, we are less corrupt than China, Australia & Japan. The only thing is that we have a vast potential. That is why we want us to be less corrupt so that we can strengthen our nation. We are still nascent but I believe that Youth has the power to change. Let’s support Anna by giving up financial corruption, let’s support him by protesting against atrocities, andlet’s support the great man by showing credibility & responsibility towards the country. The day is not far away when we all will be Proud to say ‘We are Indian’.

Jai Hind.

Indian Retail – Stll a big gamble

I am doing MBA as u all know.....maha bekar aadmi Lolzzzzz... but u see as an interseted student  of business i used to think about retail a lot. after a discussion in the class rooms i had made some report basically on the fall of the GIANTssss. i hope u enjoy it.

The Indian retail industry has been riding a wave for the last couple of years. According to a latest report, retail sales are expected to rise from US$ 343 billion currently to US$ 543 billion.
Reliance Fresh, Subhiksha, Vishal Retail, Spencer’s, More, Big Bazaar and many more have entered India since the modern format retail concept began. The expanding middle and upper classes has played a big role in the expansion of existing modern format stores and entry of new ones.
The biggest question is “Have all of these stores been successful?”

The answer is a big NO.

We shall discuss about two of the biggest failures in the history of Indian retail – Subhiksha and Vishal Retail.
subhiksha

Subhiksha was started by R. Subramaniam, an IIM A and IIT Chennai alumnus with its first store at Chennai. Ram Chandra Aggarwal set up his Vishal Garments Store in 1994 – three years before Biyani’s Pantaloon and seven years before setting up Vishal Retail. Both of them are discount stores at prices which are much lower than other retail outlets.
Though, Subhiksha has closed down and Vishal is still in the market, there are some points of similarity in their fall from glory which I would like to mention here –

Un-mindful expansion spree across different parts of the country

Subhiksha didn’t realize that with this only a few stores would be profitable and generate positive cash flows. It moved across different sectors such as medicine, grocery, IT, mobile etc very fast.
Vishal expanded without having the proper capital. They got the orders from the suppliers but when the stores didn’t work out, the entire supply chain got choked.

IPO problem

Subhiksha was thinking of going for an IPO in 2007 but shelved it in view of “uncertain market conditions”. But I believe that they got greedy as they expected a market correction.
Vishal on the other hand raised Rs 110 crore from an IPO in June 2007 which wasn’t enough to meet it scorching growth pattern. It had 50 stores by then and was looking to expand to 130 stores in a year. But it went for short term debt which resulted in a big blow to their entire supply chain when the stores didn’t happen as intended.

Both of them didn’t consolidate

Subhiksha and Vishal instead of stabilizing and consolidating themselves first in different places and then moving to newer locations, tried to be the first in every town.

Poor inventory management

Subhiksha had a bad history of credit defaults and this led to supply breakages. This led to situations where sometimes the store had very high inventory and at others, the stocks were out. This led to great dissatisfaction.
Vishal’s distribution center led model failed as it couldn’t build an IT network. Buying at warehouses was mostly not aligned to what the customers needed and resulted in dead inventory.

Private Labels

Vishal tried to develop private labels in almost every category but had limited scale to support them.
Subhiksha closed down in 2009 amid allegations of defaults, non – wages payments and bankruptcy. The people behind it are still struggling to come up with valid explanations.
Vishal has brought down the rentals of the properties, decreased its expenses and closed down two dozen stores and warehouses and plans to close more. They still need an infusion of about Rs 50 crore. Would the lenders give them?

The bad story still continues bur ma bet is still on MUKESH AMBANI....i hope he does not diasappoints me.....

Political Vagueness

NDTV is my favourite channel but for week in arow it is hooked up with the news of hooglism in Maharashtra and support for SRK. well i support him on one plea that as a peace loving Indian he had said so and also as a Corporate he has been true to us. When the stakes are as high as million of dollars how can he be not ignited if his fav is not included to the fault of these Pakistani extremists.

As i always say i am an interested Political Economic student. One outlandish thing came to my mind - IS THERE ANY SOLUTION FOR KASHMIR ISSUE? well i think thumbs down to the person who says it. India says kashmir is theirs, Pakistan says Kashmir is theirs , Kashmeres in turn are divided and even some demand autonomy too!!! Foreign secy talks are on the anvil. I will be really poignant if this happens.Hats off to Chidambram for his exemplary dedication. He has really worked hard. Sena and MNS just believe in regional chauvinism. They just can be called Internal Terrorists. Pakistani people are not bad till they dont support terror. I criticize them only for selecting wrong people at the helm of the affairs.

USA has a infuriating role to play. It is supporting Pak knowing that it is using aid against India.Obama has truly failed to deliver and it can be said that great speeches never make great admininstrators. f he wants he can stop terror to a large extent as he has did in afghanistan.

There is a case of clear Vested interests in case of Sena politics. People should be made literate about the same and should be told to follow the nature of love and harmony rather rhan holding protests or candle walks. They are going to do nothing great as they have not yielded anything apart from media hype.

As my mentor Mukesh Ambani says "India is not a land of billion problems but of billion oppurtunities" .It is the youngistaans time to be more knowledgable about these scenarios and show maturity. We have two options -

1 To follow the legacy of Gandhi, Nehru and make India a big one.

2 Read this blog and say GOOD WORK and then close it to scrap friends at Orkut.

Choice is yours.

MANAGEMENT GURU SHIVAM IMS WALE

IMS IS REALLY.........Well what is this????????????? Now dont ask me that whether i am questoning or answering but what is this?????????.Truth apart, i never want to start my 1st blog of 2010 on this title. But can anybody help us in defining IMS.
"IMS is an Institute roopi Galat fehmi jo har koi paal ke yahan aata hai aur Yahan aa ke yahan ka ho jata hai" - Shivam Drucker
Shivam Taylor theory of IMS management -
"IMS is an institute jahan insaan insaan ban ke aata hai, use scientific methods se jugaad kar ke training certificate banvana sikhaya jaata hai, motivation ke taur par pe aapko kuch nahi kaha jaata aur insaan ko Self dependent banake uske targets us par hi chod diye jaate hain"
we have read a lot of subjects right! from management to OB to company law to Our favoruite QT and then on and on and on!!!!! well i think kudos to the persons who had made this ambitious 5 year programme with a great variety of subject and the TRAINING also.........TRAINING ALSO?????? well in this chillying weather dont lie that evn 20% of u are taking training. U see we are very proud students of IMS getting 1st divison in every sem but my dear friends let me asure u that not even 30% of students are having practical exposure which is essentiality of a good carrer prospect. NO MUDSLINGING.........every body to blame including me and you.
PLACEMENT scenario this year has already pulled our hairs. Then we have a hell lot of detractors busy in watching that nothing good happens. well this time i am not telling u to really stand up because cowards like u remain cowards!!!!! There is not a single person who is ready to support the initiator because we "dont worry" attitude will never go and significantly result is in front of u.
Dont feel Cricmania and Taylors cup will change Institute.Academics is the real thing and due importance has to be given to our carrers.so dont feel happy if u are having 3 events in a year bec ultimately without academics ur future is like 'Ram gopal verma ki AAG'.
I really take this forum again to Congratulate Praveen for his heroic workmanship. He really wants to make our training process formal so that everybody benefits out of it. Good work dude, if these all cowards are not with u , I will be standing till death. And haan please mujhe ye blog padhne ke baad galiyan suna dena because now i too "dont worry'
Fantastically and Dramatically Yours

UPA - LUCK HAS ITS OWN WAY

Firstly it is finally raining and it is raining too much(i am wearing Track suit...really).In May congress, unexpectedly got more than they deserved and till then they are riding on luck i think.Pranab Dada's budget was a "Tortoise Hit"(u saw GDP rate),Too much optimism which is still seeming to me that it can become a reality, i am talking about targeted Fiscal deficit though it is still one of the lowest in the world. Then hue and cry as always by the divided opposition about monsoon impact. Now i think there should be FLOODED DISTRICTS BE DECLARED SOON.
India is the land of vivid political cultures followed. As an interested Political and Economical student, i wish to make one pt.When the agriculture sector adds little to make an impact on the growth rate and in India Infrastructure growth matters the most which is resuming now and a very positive future can be sighted here, still agencies like IMF, WORLD BANK peg it at 5%.It is absurd even to think after knowing the finer details......
3g auction is finally coming and 10th Board saga finally ends on a positive end.In Haryana Congress is coming...my bhavishvani hahahahaha.Well 100 days UPA programme...what happened to that NOTHING of course.UPA has not done any miracles but i still feel that as expected they are going strong.
I think we should agree to Mr Kamath,Chairman ICICI that 7 - 7.5% growth is possible with current trends in next fiscal and if that comes out to be a reality it is going to Blast the rubbish claims of World bank and others. well as Indian we should be Proud that we are the second fastest growing.
So BEST OF LUCK MANMOHAN SIR JEE...... can we hope some good Relief package for Mba students also.
REGARDS
UR POLITICAL ECONOMIST SHIVAM
